Resources for Die-Hard Foodies
Being a good card-carrying foodie is easier than ever. For those of us old enough to remember those days before the computer, we realize that foodies had to rely much more on those “oh so quaint” things called books. But those days are very gone. Today, books are only one of the information resources that are available to assist foodies in their quest for great food.
No matter what your personal taste may be, odds are that there is a website or blog dedicated to covering that food and offering tasty ideas. A quick Internet search will no doubt reveal all kind of wonders that will make your mouth water.
Here are some good picks:
1. 52 Cupcakes is a blog that, you guessed, is all about the cupcakes. What makes this blog a bit of a standout is that the site combines cupcake recipes and fun in a really inviting and homey way that will delight most visitors.
2. 101 Cookbooks is a blog that doesn’t just focus on cookbooks, but a wide variety of foods. 101 Cookbooks is loaded down with recipes and with a name like “101 Cookbooks,” you would expect it to be! The blog comes to us from Heidi Swanson and is full of wonderful treats such as Kabocha French Lentil Soup and the delicious Chocolate Puddle Cookie.
3. Gluten-Free Girl is a great blog for anyone who has issues with gluten. It is no big surprise here that there are dishes aplenty that are all gluten free at this resource. What might come as a surprise is that in addition to all the recipes, there are some really nice videos as well. Make sure you check out the World Peace Cookies while you are there.
4. Foodzie is a special independent marketplace for unique and special foods. Many small artisan producers of foods are marketing their great offerings via Foodzie. The site has an amazing search engine where you can look up virtually any special food under the sun and it will be instantly offered up to you. Foodoro is similar to Foodzie. Foodoro’s tag line is “the marketplace to buy and sell gourmet food.” If you are a foodie, you know that you are in good hands.
Obviously these three food blogs and websites represent just the tiniest of a fraction of those that are available on the Internet. Just hunt around and you will definitely find food websites which will synch up with the food you love.
Video and Foodie Paradise
If you are looking for free videos, recipes, cooking instructions, and lessons, then you are in luck. The Internet is full of great sites that will help you make the absolute most out of your cooking time. Here are a few good ones that represent just the tip of the iceberg.
1. The fact that The Food Network makes the list is probably not a great shocker. With a name like “The Food Network,” the pressure is really on to deliver some great recipes. No matter what type of food you are into and no matter what your skill level, odds are they have you covered.
2. Another great food video site has to be ifood.tv, which is loaded with videos from professional chefs. Much like The Food Network, ifood.tv really emphasizes variety. The site is easily navigated and truly does seem to have something for everyone. Expect to find such unusual recipes as a bison burger recipe that uses portabella mushrooms instead of buns.
3. You might not immediately think of Youtube as the place for foodies, but type in “recipe” or “food” and you will certainly see that the Internet is indeed full of all sorts of recipes. Every type and style of food is represented and the videos range from highly polished and professional, to videos that are more amateur. One good way to find videos on Youtube is to find a food channel and see what they have to offer.
Books
Of course, we should never forget about books. While the Internet has put a great deal of wonderful cooking information and recipes at our fingertips, the world is full of so many great cookbooks. Amazon.com for example not only has an endless array of cookbooks, but also has all sorts of specialty cookbooks whether you are vegan or a vegetarian or are just interested in any of number of cuisines or diets.
