Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy

Both in demand for professional massage therapists and in the variety of employment opportunities, the field of massage therapy is expanding quickly. An increasing number of people are looking to massage to help them relax and to provide relief from stress, aches, and pains. More and more research indicates that therapeutic massage confers significant health benefits and it is quickly becoming an important part of any holistic approach to health and well being.

Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy believes in the transformational power of massage therapy. Having a deep awareness and understanding of what massage therapy is about is the foundation for being able to help others through touch, as well as experiencing the life-enhancing effects of massage first hand. CCMT strives to provide comprehensive, professional training in a holistic context, and this has always been central to its mission. As they support self-care and personal development, they honor the synchrony of mind-body-heart.

Since 1980, CCMT has been dedicated exclusively to providing massage therapy training. Three campuses make up CCMT. There is a branch in Westport, one in Groton, and the main campus is located in Newington. Each of these sites administers a massage therapy course of study on a part-time basis. Westport offers a clinical massage therapy program, Groton offers a spa massage therapy program, and in addition, Newington offers a full-time massage therapy program. Those who qualify will have flexible schedule options and financial aid.

The center is committed to offering outstanding educational programs, and they adhere to strict standards as far as their curriculum, the faculty they hire, and the services they provide to students, graduates, and members of the greater massage therapy community. CCMT has received accreditation from COMTA, an accrediting group that has been granted recognition from the US Department of Education, which grants accreditation for courses and colleges in massage therapy and bodywork.

CCMT provides a comprehensive curriculum that combines technique, science, and business with lots of hands-on experience. The classes that they offer provide academic challenges along with the latest practical instruction geared to professional careers. In order to gain hands-on experience, CCMT provides students with many opportunities. Student clinics are included in each student's program of study. There, in a supervised, clinical setting, they provide massage to members of the public. Students in certain programs and campus locations are also able to take part in clinical education experiences involving Hartford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, William W. Backus Hospital along with The Spa situated at Norwich Inn. Select CCMT classes have received approval to qualify for as many as 40 credit hours at Charter Oak State College.
